Leadership

Every dollar counts at United Way of Greater Stark County. We are especially thankful for those community members who have made the decision to become a leadership donor. Leadership donors are those that have donated $1,200 or more to the annual United Way campaign.

As a leadership donor, you will have the opportunity to take part in networking, social, educational and philanthropic events hosted throughout the year. In addition, leadership donors are recognized as part of the annual Leadership Book, which is printed each year and acknowledges those that have decided to give at this level.

As a leadership donor, you are invited to participate in more than one of the group’s activities throughout the year.

Download the most recent Leadership Giving Book, a publication distributed community-wide which recognizes donors giving to United Way of Greater Stark County at a leadership level. Special thanks to The Huntington National Bank for sponsoring the production of this year's Leadership Giving Book.

Alexis de Toqueville

During the fall of 1832, Alexis de Tocqueville, a young Frenchman, traveled nearly 8,000 miles across America speaking with individuals about the "great experiment" in democracy.

The spirit of selflessness and cooperation among Americans amazed de Tocqueville.

His written work, Democracy in America, reflects his admiration for the American spirit of voluntary action for the common good.

Founded in 1981 by Thomas F. Frist, Jr., the Tocqueville Society echoes the American spirit of cooperation and good will which de Tocqueville witnessed in early America. It personifies the true meaning of philanthropy, with members giving $10,000 or more annually to United Way of Greater Stark County. Currently, there are more than 398 local Tocqueville Societies in the U.S.

The United Way of Greater Stark County's de Tocqueville Society offers its members a variety of networking and social events including the annual dinner. Members are recognized in the annual Leaderships Giving Book, along with national publications. Co-Chairpersons of the Society are Bob and Linda DeHoff.

In 2005, the de Tocqueville Society welcomed 13 new members and raised more than $1,180,000.
