Bob and Linda DeHoff,
Chairpersons, Alexis De Tocqueville Society

"United Way allows us to serve the greater needs of our community and influence the condition of all with one gift ... a meaningful and heartfelt investment into Stark
County, our home.

United Way has shown an incredible ability to reinvent itself, time and again, to address the ever-changing needs of Stark County residents - helping build a better and brighter future for our community. Important to us - United Way pays particular attention to the root causes of challenges our area faces and addresses these in significant and measurable ways.

Together, we can all make a difference. This is why, for many years, we have been chairpersons of the United Way of Greater Stark County's Alexis de Tocqueville Society.

This is why, and how, we LIVE UNITED."

During the fall of 1832, Alexis de Tocqueville, a young Frenchman, traveled nearly 8,000 miles across America speaking with individuals about the "great experiment" in democracy. The spirit of selflessness and cooperation among Americans amazed de Tocqueville. His written work, Democracy in America, reflects his admiration for the American spirit of voluntary action for the common good.

Founded in 1981 by Thomas F. Frist, Jr., the Tocqueville Society echoes the American spirit of cooperation and good will which de Tocqueville witnessed in early America. It personifies the true meaning of philanthropy, with members giving $10,000 or more annually to United Way of Greater Stark County. Currently, there are more than 398 local Tocqueville Societies in the U.S.

The United Way of Greater Stark County's de Tocqueville Society offers its members a variety of networking and social events including the annual dinner. Members are recognized in the annual Leaders in Giving Book, along with national publications. Co-Chairpersons of the Society are Linda and Bob DeHoff.
